I have always wondered about people who are too hard on themselves, who say they believe in perfection that they are perfectionist. But isn't it going to the extremes.
Shouldn't you be allowed to make few mistakes? After all making mistakes is part of life. Suppose a person never make a mistake, he thinks that he can never make mistakes he always double check his work and assures that his work is 100% defect free. But then somebody else finds a minor defect in his work. The perfectionist goes into depression as he used to think he was 100 % defect free. It was a minor defect but then in perfectionist brain it becomes of high intensity. He keeps on thinking about it each waking hour. He keeps on cursing himself. How can he do it? How can he miss such a small detail? How can he miss ……… how can he…………….
Now take an average person who takes things as it comes. He lives by the principle that you have to do your best and mistakes do happen so suffer the consequences of the mistakes and move on. Now he accepts his mistakes and don’t keep on cursing himself over his mistakes. He likes to work on his mistakes and try to not repeat those mistakes and learn something from them. Now consider he is in the same situation as our perfectionist, what will our average person do? He will see and analyze his mistake. Find the root cause of the mistake. See if it can be solved and if yes will solve it or else go and accept it just as it is, learn from it and let it go. No use of just thinking about it day and night. As you can’t do anything about it. The mistake has been made so he will try not to repeat it but can’t be sure if he will repeat it or not. ‘Cause if he knew he was making a mistake he wouldn’t have made it in the first place. Of course, if he repeat the same mistake twice then the consequences will be harsher but he didn’t know at the time that he was making a mistake so he will again have to face the consequences. The consequences will of course be harsher than when he made the mistake the first time. But as he is the average person he will take it in his stride and don’t let it bother him too much. Because in the end he know “Nothing Matters”. You make mistakes you repeat them you make new mistakes you again repeat them. But the most important thing is to never let the mistakes you made stop you from doing new things.
Never let your light turn into darkness. Never let your mistakes make you depressed. Never let your mistakes overwhelm you. Remember you are not made of your mistakes but mistakes are made by you. So don’t give them the power to make you their slaves. It should be other way round. And who knows you were meant to make those mistakes. If you have repeated the mistake then may be you were meant to repeat the mistake. Who knows what our ultimate goal is? If it is to make mistakes or not to make mistakes. Because I do know that some of the major discoveries in this world has been through mistakes.
So never ever let your light turn into darkness………………………..
